Hi there! Heads up: I’ve included some affiliate links in this post. Using them gives me a small commission and I appreciate your support!
There’s something about waking up before my family, taking a warm shower, brewing a strong cup of coffee or tea, and snuggling up on my couch with a cozy blanket, a bold highlighter, and my devotional. Now, we’re talking best-case scenario here! In reality, on most days, I’m fighting to carve out a random moment in the day—or in the evening before bed—to have Quiet Time and reset. Either way, the goal is to prioritize time to spend with God and to set my mind and emotions on Him and His Word, so when and how that happens are just minor details. (This idea is far beyond the philosophy I used to hold dearly in my heart—the idea that time with God has to look like this or that, or else it doesn’t count. Have you ever thought that way? Do you still?)
I haven’t always been a big devourer of devotionals. Last year was the first time I stuck with one and completed it—well, almost. I might have missed a couple of days. This year, I want to continue this routine because I experienced spiritual and emotional refreshment and recalibration throughout the year when adding devotional readings to my spiritual disciplines—reading the Bible, praying, worshipping, and engaging in community.
If you’re like me, you’re on the hunt in December for a new devotional to dig into for the new year. (Also, if you’re like me, you may procrastinate the search until January has already made its grand entrance! “Better late than never,” they say.) I’ve compiled a short list of devotionals—some books and some apps—to give you a few ideas. I have read some of these, while others are on my TBR list and living room bookshelf.
My Absolute Favorite Devotional
New Morning Mercies is a devotional I’d easily choose to dig into year after year. I just adore Paul David Tripp’s writer’s voice. His relatable, insightful, and honest tone makes it easy— while also challenging me—to see myself and God rightly. It’s like chatting with a parent who will give you hard truths with a touch of humor and lots of humility. New Morning Mercies is a bestselling Christian devotional, and after sitting with it all year and highlighting, underlining, and writing personal commentary like “Amen!!!,” “Yes!!,” and “JESUS!!!” in the margins—with all the exclamation points—I totally understand why.

My 2025 Devotional
Christine Caine is a renowned speaker who’s on fire for Christ. Her ministry to women and anti-human trafficking activism have impacted her work and words, so much so that she’s a bestselling author of a treasure trove of godly gems. Her devotional Unshakable: 365 Devotions for Finding Unwavering Strength in God’s Word intrigued me as I saw other Christian women sharing bits of its pages on social media throughout the past year.
I look forward to doing the same things in my Instagram Stories this year!

Devotional for Married Couples
Bestselling author Gary Thomas strikes again with his book Devotions for a Sacred Marriage: A Year of Weekly Devotions for Couples. I’m excited about this one because it encourages my husband and I to make intentional time to make fruitful deposits into our marriage together. Hopefully, it will bring connection and strength to your marriage, too!

My go-to bible app
I love everything the She Reads Truth crew offers—digital and physical bibles, bible reading plans and guides, devotionals, community, and more—so much so that I have their $2.99 monthly app subscription.
