Hi, I’m Starlita Kilpatrick and I’m a maternal health advocate and Take10 ambassador for the @preeclampsia.foundation . Did you know Black women are at greater risk of developing preeclampsia during pregnancy? This #MaternalHealthAwarenessDay the Preeclampsia Foundation launched “Gap-spirin” - a creative intervention to help close our maternal health equity gap. Black women, especially first-time moms, are less likely to be informed about aspirin as a potential preventative for preeclampsia. But it doesn’t have to be that way. As a patient not prescribed aspirin, Gap-spirin has all the information I want providers to know. I’m looking for providers to not only have the information/stats/facts but to act on it and do something about it. I had a provider casually mention aspirin, which did not communicate to me the dire importance of its use, only to suffer from Postpartum Preeclampsia later. After reviewing this campaign, I believe my provider would have had the confidence to not only inform me about aspirin but also prescribe it and connect me with support.
