Ah, Fall is here! This is my favorite season (next to Winter) because of the changing colors on the trees, the cooler weather, and most of all, it’s the time for all things apple — and pumpkin! To be honest, I am an apple kinda gal and never really got into pumpkins, although pumpkin spice smells amazing! This year I decided to really do “all the Fall things” by going pumpkin picking and then using those pumpkins as my outdoor decor for Fall. So my family did the whole hayride thing, picked a bunch of pumpkins, got some hay bales, wooden crates, and some mums, and went to work!
First things first, I found out about a hack for extending the shelf-life of pumpkins for decorating. We made it a whole family event, with the kids fully participating. This pumpkin prep process took about 24 hours.
When pumpkins were all prepped and ready to go, we went to work decorating our front entryway. The kids were super excited about participating and come to think of it, this might have been the first time we have ever decorated for Fall!
It took a little trial and error, but in the end, we figured the best way to get everything in place. I originally planned to put the mums inside the wooden crates, but the crate ended up being too narrow. So, instead, they went on top of the crates, which I held down in place with a large pumpkin inside each of them.
I honestly had no clue where to put the hay bales, but once we put pumpkins on top of them, it seemed to make sense. We also had a lot of smaller pumpkins and decided to place them along the sides of each front step.
And there you have it! It was so much fun decorating for Fall this year and we are definitely going to make this an annual family tradition. Just adding this decor to the front of our home makes for such a warm welcome when we return back home from running errands or taking a walk around the neighborhood. Sometimes when I just need a moment of calm from a busy or hectic homeschooling day, I go outside to just admire the colors from our large tree and all of the pumpkin decorations. It brings joy to us and those who pass by in the midst of this season of social distancing and quarantine.
